PORTOLA VALLEY CONTEMPORARY RANCH REMODEL II

A whole-house interior remodel with new exterior materials

Portola Valley Contemporary Ranch Remodel II

Our clients Mark and Sharon had in mind an ambitious makeover of their dated ranch home in mind, but were equally concerned about budget and schedule. This led us to avoid the various triggers for Design Review in Portola Valley, which naturally yielded a more budget-friendly approach by requiring us to minimize new floor area and structural changes to the existing house.

Within these budget and design restrictions, we were able to develop a design that transformed the exterior and interior of the house in the Owners’ preferred style. A round of collaborative value engineering with the bid-winning contractor helped bring the project in on time and on budget.

New exterior materials include clad wood windows, stain grade exterior doors, smooth stucco walls, stain grade exterior trim, limestone veneer, and stain grade wood siding. Vaulted and high ceilings throughout the remodeled area add a sense of grandeur and bring in more light throughout the public areas.

  • Scope of Work: Remodel of and addition to an existing 4BR 2.5 BA single family residence with 2,927 existing living S.F. on a 1.04 acres (43,750 S.F.) lot. A 274.3 S.F. addition of new living area, 95 S.F. existing porch converted into living area and 116.4 S.F. demolition of existing living area resulted in a 4BR and 4 BA residence with 3,179.9 living S.F. with an (E) garage of 644.7 S.F. totaling 3,824.6 S.F.
