MOUNTAIN VIEW CRAFTSMAN

This home features a light-filled corner living room and high-contrast interior design

Mountain View Craftsman

We love when we are granted the opportunity to work on corner-lot homes because the design opportunity becomes much more three dimensional. Deciding how to design and orient the streetside corner of the house becomes crucial. Do we add a wrap-around porch? What room do we place on the corner? In this instance, we decided to locate the living-room there and surround it with windows to provide an exterior focal point and expansive views from within.

These clients sought us out after having toured and loved a Craftsman home we designed in San Carlos, and were very much drawn to a similar aesthetic. They loved high-contrast interiors, so we offset the white craftsman style millwork with fun tiles and paint colors. To accommodate the music-loving family, the home features a music wall and piano nook on the first level.

The completed house will be a strong complement to the existing traditional neighborhood of Old Mountain View, a few short blocks from downtown.
