One of the more common architectural challenges we are asked to solve involves “filling in the L” of a one story ranch home while preserving the existing structure for budgetary reasons.
This whole house remodel + addition brings the garage forward and creates more living space at the rear of the property, which now opens on to the backyard much more graciously with 12′ ceilings and an abundance of glass facing east.
The Ranch style is maintained, yet made contemporary with the use of modern materials and a more interesting roofline. To help minimize the “throat” problem so common in an “L” shaped ranch addition, we brought the main entry forward and highlighted it with a new roofline and welcoming front door, which is in turn recessed under a 4′ deep soffit which offers a modern interpretation of a traditional front porch.
