LOS ALTOS CONTEMPORARY IV

Shed roofs, red cedar siding, and custom skylights add flair to this contemporary-style home

Los Altos Contemporary IV

This new home on a tree-lined, quiet lane is our fourth project for a successful residential developer, and the second project in Los Altos for this client. We designed a single-story home in order to blend nicely with the low scale of the neighborhood.

We originally developed a design with a 2,000 s.f partial basement; however, the client decided to eliminate that space to simplify the construction and reduce time to market. The final design is a handsome single-story contemporary with a mix of flat roofs and shed roofs, generous glazing, and a rich materials palette including red cedar siding on the home’s exterior walls, stucco and accents of stamped concrete. Powder coated steel beams were also incorporated in the home’s front.

Custom skylights were designed around the new fireplace, which will bring in light and shadows play across the stone walls. This also creates a contrast between the transparency of the skylight and the mass of the fireplace.
