After a multi-year Planning approval process requiring multiple public hearings, rounds of design revisions, and countless meetings with neighbors and Town staff, our design was finally approved largely as originally conceived. Concessions made were in the breadth of the second floor, overall height of the building, and percentage of front elevation devoted to glazing.
Featuring a delicate series of interlocking volumes, varied rooflines, and a harmonious palette of rich natural materials including western red cedar, corten steel, smooth stucco, and drystack stone, as the native landscaping fills in over time the building will tie in harmoniously with its spectacular site and natural surroundings. All bedrooms and primary living areas feature dramatic views towards Crystal Springs Reservoirs. The expansive glazing capturing these views faces northwest, minimizing solar heat gain. The master bedroom volume cantilevers dramatically over the northwest corner of the building, creating a cozy covered outdoor space below.
